Dr. Laura-Ann Petitto to Present at World Bank

Dr. Laura-Ann Petitto* will be at the World Bank* campus in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, November 12, 2015, to present an educational seminar, “The Impact of Multiple Language Learning on Children’s Brain Development,” to World Bank families, a majority of whom are multi-lingual.


Dr. Petitto will discuss the results of her research on various questions, including the impact on the developing brain of learning two languages, the optimal time to expose a young child to two languages and two reading systems, and the normal developmental stages of bilingual language and reading acquisition.


*Dr. Petitto is Science Director and Co-Principal Investigator of the National Science Foundation and Gallaudet University’s Science of Learning Center, Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2). She is also the Scientific Director of The Brain and Language Laboratory for Neuroimaging (BL2).


*The World Bank is a global financial institution that distributes loans to developing countries to aid with the reduction of poverty through various approaches, including development and support for early childhood education.
